How to convert Markdown to Word
- Bring your source. Paste Markdown or choose a UTF-8 .md or .markdown file. Headings and paragraph structure come from the Markdown, not a screenshot.
- Build the document. Select Convert to Word. If the source refers to an image, supply it locally using the image control. Read any warnings before saving.
- Open the DOCX. Download the result and inspect it in your Word application. Check tables, equations, image placement and page breaks before sharing.

Word styles and page layout
Native Word styles
This Markdown to Word converter creates a DOCX package directly in the browser. The document uses named Word styles: Heading 1–6, Normal, List Paragraph, Quote and Code Block. It does not wrap the whole document in a screenshot or use an HTML file renamed .docx.
Preview and page layout
Browser preview is a content check, not a Word page-layout guarantee. The DOCX uses US Letter portrait pages with 0.75-inch top/bottom and 1-inch side margins. Word chooses line and page breaks using installed fonts.
Complex content needs review
Wide tables, very long code lines, complex formulas and multilingual fonts need review.
Images and application differences
Images taller than the available page area are rejected rather than silently cropped. Footnote placement and diagram lettering can differ between office applications.
Support and limits
Document structure
Headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, strikethrough, nested numbered and bullet lists, blockquotes, horizontal rules, fenced and inline code, and ordinary GFM tables. Table headers are marked for repetition in Word. Task boxes are symbols, not interactive controls.
Links, images and notes
HTTP, HTTPS and email links remain clickable; matching heading links use Word bookmarks. Supplied PNG, JPEG and WebP images become embedded PNGs. Markdown [^note] references and [^note]: definitions become native Word footnotes. Undefined references remain labeled text.
Math and diagrams
Supported $inline$ and $$display$$ LaTeX is converted through KaTeX MathML into editable Word equations. Fractions, roots, scripts, limits and matrices are handled; unsupported notation remains literal TeX with a warning. Mermaid fences render as embedded PNG diagrams; failed diagrams remain code with a warning.
Code and literal HTML
Code remains editable in a monospaced Word style. Syntax colors are not exported. Raw HTML is retained as literal text rather than executed or treated as document layout. Custom CSS, plugins, citation databases and full TeX document commands are not supported.
Input limits
One UTF-8 Markdown document per run, up to 10 MiB (10,485,760 bytes), with a 30 MiB DOCX output limit. Invalid UTF-8 is rejected. Documents exceeding 20,000 blocks, 20 nesting levels or 20 table columns stop with an explanation. These are enforced limits, not measured device-memory ceilings.
Test files and results

Use our self-created Markdown fixtures to inspect native Word structures and failure boundaries. They are examples for this converter, not an accuracy percentage or a test of competing tools.
- English structure fixture: headings, table, lists, link, code and footnote
- Math and image fixture: editable equations, an embedded image and a diagram
- Boundary fixture: missing image, unsafe link, HTML and unsupported TeX
| Fixture | Actual result | Remaining boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | 3 Word headings; 1 table with 3 columns and 3 numbered data rows; ordered list starts at 3; nested bullets, English text, bold/italic, link, code and 1 native footnote checked. Retested on October 25, 2026. | These synthetic cells and paragraphs do not establish accuracy for other documents. |
| Math and images | 4 native equation objects, including fraction, root, scripts and matrix; 1 supplied image plus 1 rendered Mermaid diagram embedded. The first diagram attempt was rejected by browser canvas security; switching Mermaid to SVG text labels produced the reviewed diagram. | Diagrams are images, not editable Word shapes. This checks the sample notation only. |
| Boundaries | 5 warnings: missing image, unsafe link, literal HTML, unsupported TeX and undefined footnote. No external image was fetched. Supplying the missing image locally in a separate run produced an embedded image and removed its missing-image warning. | Other unsupported content remained unchanged as labeled text; it was not repaired or reported as supported. |

Download the English structure check record
Test environment and boundary-check record
The English structure sample was loaded with Try a sample, converted and downloaded on October 25, 2026. The downloaded DOCX was independently checked for its headings, all table cells, emphasis and footnote, then rendered with LibreOffice. Its one rendered page was visually inspected. The math/image and boundary samples retain their October 16, 2026 checks; they were not rerun on October 25. Microsoft Word-specific layout fidelity has not been tested.
An invalid UTF-8 file and a 10,485,761-byte file were rejected with download disabled. At a 390-pixel browser viewport the structure sample converted and downloaded; the document width was 375 pixels excluding the scrollbar. This is a browser-width check, not a physical-phone or cellular-network test.
Earlier mixed-language sample — October 16, 2026
The original mixed-language check is retained as a historical record. It is not the current English example. Earlier source · Earlier DOCX.
Local processing and privacy
Conversion does not contact a model or paid API. All libraries are served from this site; math and ZIP libraries load when you convert, and Mermaid loads only when encountered. Loading software and public samples downloads those assets to your browser. Your source and supplied images are not uploaded or saved as a history. First-use waits and large-document memory use depend on your device.
Supplied images are embedded, not linked to an external image server. Remote references are not fetched. Hyperlinks remain active in the document, so following one later contacts its destination. The conversion itself stays in this browser.
Frequently asked questions
Can I paste an answer copied as Markdown?
Yes. Paste its Markdown text, keep code inside fences and check its table separators. A pasted screenshot or a rich-text clipboard selection is not a Markdown document. Nothing here connects to your chat account.
